NEW SHOT ADDED: "Up Over Around & Through" - This great shot is an adaptation of mine from a show we shoot in professional competition. With the one ball on the rail and a ball frozen to it, the objective is to shoot into the one ball making only it and the cue ball move - nothing else moves. The cue ball jumps off of the one, over the wall, around 2 rails, and in my version, through a narrow gap to make the 15 ball. Enjoy!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Jumpin' Kevin" - I posted on this site a shot where I launch the cue ball over a friend of mine, Keith, to make a ball in the corner. Only then, I used an object ball to launch the cue ball over him. Now I'm quite proficient at jumping higher and higher. For instance, at a Toys For Tots show I was doing for Billiard for Benefit, I jumped a ball over Jennifer Baretta. (Nice.) Here, I had my friend Kevin lay on the table so I could jump the cue ball over him and make a ball in the corner. It didn't phase him a bit, as you can see.

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Tap-N-Jump" - This is a fun and fancy shot! I have two balls stacked in the far corner. To make them, I shoot the nine ball into the cue ball lightly. Then, as it's moving down table, I jump the nine ball over the cue ball to make the 5 ball and get out of the way. After the five is made, the one drops down in its place and the cue ball, still rolling, makes it in the pocket! This is a great shot!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Hit the Cup" - Bruce Barthelette has a great shot where he jumps a barrier wall that he made that sits in the middle of the table. The wall is about 7 inches high, so it's hard to get the cue ball over it. He jumps the cue ball over the wall and into a baseball mit on the other end of the table. My version is quite funny, to tell the truth. I looked through the house to see what I had that was 7 inches tall and the closest thing I could find was a cereal box at 8". I didn't have a baseball glove handy so I got a Taco Bell cup, set it up at the middle diamond on the far end of the table, and started jumping, trying to make it into the cup. When I made it into the cup, it was so funny that I had to shoot it over on film. Here's what happened...

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Chalk's Width Masse Jump" - Occasionally I get creative and combine two fun shots together. Occasionally I combine more than that. Here I have a jump shot, but not just any jump shot. I make a jump shot from a chalk's width away, over the blocker ball, then it with masse it curves around two more blocker balls before making my object ball! For this shot I use a shaft of a cue, so it's light and I get the jump I need. But, I don't use a jump cue shaft because phenolic tips don't get enough spin. I use a regular shooting shaft with a medium tip so I get the immediate jump I need and it retains the spin to get around the blocker balls. I LOVE this shot!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Big Guy Masse Jump" - I've been shooting a lot of "Big Guy" Bruce Barthelette's shots lately. Here's another one of his shots that he told me about. I jump/masse the cue ball out of the rack, off the long rail, then around a wall of balls to pocket the object ball. This is an absolutely beautiful shot! Thanks Bruce!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Bruce's Moving Jump Shot" - I took an idea from the Big Guy and added my own flavor to it. In this shot I send the cue ball 3 rails then jump it on the fly through the tire to make the object ball. Jumping a ball is difficult enough but here, not only do I jump a moving ball, but I jump it just high enough to barely make it through the tire. Pretty cool!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Yow's Jumpin' Through Hoops" - In recent years, more and more players are learning to jump the cue ball proficiently. In my experience, I've found that very few 'older' players (I use that term lightly) ever bother with jumping. Thus, it seems as if it's a next generation fad, especially with the advent of jump cues in recent years. Now, technology has driven us to phenolic tips and even one-piece phenolic tip/ferrules to allow hard impacts, virtually zero compression upon impact, and thus powerful jumps and breaks. Well, I have tried to take jumping to the next level. In Artistic Pool competitions we shoot the Bank/Jump shot, as I call it here on this site, where we use the cue ball to jump an object ball slightly, using the rail rebound to launch it over a wall of balls. Furthermore, in "Yow! How'd he do that?!" I jump the cue ball into an object ball, causing the object ball to jump and deflect off of another ball before passing over a wall of balls. Well, here, I take it to another level - I jump the cue ball into the one ball to cause it to jump over a wall of balls and through a rack to travel down table and pocket in the corner. A key in this shot is to get the jump but not let the cue ball hit either rack, nor let the one ball hit the wall or second rack on its way down table. I love this shot and it's certainly become a new favorite of mine. Check it out!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Big Guy Box Shot" - One of many shots that Bruce "The Big Guy" Barthelette has come up with is one similar to that which I shoot here. "The Big Guy" actually used a Kleenex tissue box to build a miniature couch, including tiny couch pillows and all, and he shoots the cue ball like I do here, causing it to make the one and have the cue ball jump up on the 'couch' and stay put. In my version, I simply have it jump in the box and stay there. Fun shot - nice one Bruce!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Big Guy Jump" - Yet another shot that Bruce "The Big Guy" Barthelette conceived is one I shoot here. It was his objective that you shoot the cue ball from 3 balls' width away from a wall, jumping one handed, to pocket the two balls sitting near the spot. I shoot the shot a little different, adding some flare. See, the two balls on the spot plus the cue ball make a good three ball shot, where you have both object balls and the cue ball all disappear from the table in one stroke. Using Bruce's idea, I shoot it so that I scratch before the second object ball drops. This shot was a big hit in Panama City, Florida. Thanks "Big Guy"!

NEW SHOT ADDED & SHOT OF THE WEEK: "Yow's Bull's Eye" - So, I was playing a game of 8 ball with my friend Kevin recently. Not long prior I had taught him how to jump and with a bit of practice, he has become quite good. During this particular game he found himself left 6 feet from his ball, separated by a blocker ball that was 5 feet away. Immediately he pulls out my jump cue and jacks up. I say, "WOAHHHH buddy! There's no way you can jump that far...I can't even jump that far! Normally, we jump blocker balls that are no more than a few feet away. To jump further is to virtually guarantee that even IF you made it over the wall, you'll never keep the cue ball on the table. Well, he tried and failed. Then after the game, I proved myself wrong. I CAN jump that far and I show exactly how far and with how much accuracy with this next shot. Here, I jump the length of my 8 foot table, over a wall, and landing directly in the far corner pocket! I guess I proved myself wrong again.

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Jump to Easy Three" - Every now and again I have to stop shooting the hard shots and move to something easy. On my instructional page I explain how to shoot a shot where the first ball hit makes 3 balls at once (easy schmeezy). Here, I make it a bit harder by jumping over a thick wall of balls. Jumping into the first ball changes the throw lines of the set-up, so it's a little harder this way, but still fun, and impressive. Like I said, though, this one is a bit easier than most of the shots I do. If you're looking for a new shot for your own repertoire, this is a good one, especially for showing off for a crowd. :)

NEW SHOT ADDED: "Snake Eyes" - While I was competing in the 2006 Master's Artistic Pool Championship, held contemporaneously with the Hopkins Super Billiard Expo, I took the opportunity to go to numerous vendors' booths and check out some products on the market today. I especially took note of Joe Porper Creative Inventions and Bob Meucci's booths. While in the Stealth booth, cuemaker Ned Morris caught my attention as he taught onlookers how to jump with his jump cues. I stopped for a bit and before long, I was jumping balls 1mm away, shooting jump masse shots, jumping one handed, jumping behind the back, and showing everything else I can do, much of which without looking. (By then, of course, there was quite a crowd and pictures were being taken.) Then, Ned showed me a shot I had never seen before that he calls "Snake Eyes". He shot it, then I shot it on my first try, and I thanked him for the inspiration, promising him that I would soon after film it and put it on my website, giving him credit. Ned Morris of Stealth Cues showed me the following shot and it is a great one. Here, with two jump cues, I jump two balls, over two balls, to make two balls. Nice! Thanks Ned!

NEW SHOT ADDED: "YOW'S NO LOOK BEHIND THE BACK JUMP SHOT" - I think the title is pretty self-explanatory. :) I love jump shots and once I bought this Lucasi Jump Cue from Nielsen's Billiards (see Links) I realized that I'm capable of so much more. It really takes the proper equipment to take you to your highest potential. Now that I've been shooting with this jump cue, I've learned much better how to jump the cue ball and how to control its height, spin, power, and distance with a number of different styles of strokes. This novelty shot is one where I shoot a simple jump, making it more impressive by shooting behind the back while looking at the camera. Check it out!

NEW SHOT ADDED : TIMING JUMP - I feature on this site the Timing Shot that was shot in the movie PoolHall Junkies. Check this one out though! It's the same shot, but I'm trapped behind a wall of balls! Do you think I can jump the timing shot? Click and see.

NEW SHOT ADDED : "TOO CLOSE" - Here's a shot I call "Too Close". It's a jump shot, obviously. Recently I have been driven to jump balls that were closer and closer, just to see what I'm capable of doing. I jump with a shaft of off my Lucasi Jump/Break cue, one with a phenolic tip. Here, I am only a few millimeters away and completely clear the object ball. I've jumped even closer than that but haven't got it on film yet. Stay tuned and see if I get one on film for you soon enough!

NEW SHOT ADDED The BOOT shot - Mike Massey has done wonders for the sport, having traveled to 30+ countries, over 1 million miles, performing thousands of exhibitions, appearing in dozens of movies and television shows, and creating numerous incredible trick shots. It almost frustrates me when people ask me if I know of Mike Massey, because I know what their next question is: "can you do the boot shot?" Mike Massey amazed thousands upon thousands when he jumped a pool ball some 10 or 12 feet off of the table to land in a cowboy boot, when shooting on ESPN Trick Shot Magic some time ago. While the shot is impressive, to know the man by just one shot is not to know the man at all. He is an ambassador for the sport, a conqueror of giants, a champion of champions, and a faithful follower of the Lord who uses his abilities in sharing his faith with others through Gospel Trick Shot Ministries. To know the man by one shot...? Nevertheless, due to popular demand, I had to shoot the boot shot for my audience as well. Consider this a tribute to the great Mike Massey.

NEW SHOT ADDED: YOW'S JUMP ESCAPE - I came up with an interesting escape shot. I'm trapped in and behind a wall of balls and can pocket the one ball, but there's so much more that I can do with it. Here I jump off of the one, pocketing it in the corner, then the cue ball jumps off the rail, over the wall of balls and runs all the way up table to pocket the nine in the far corner. This is a GREAT shot! Enjoy!

NEW SHOT ADDED:I use props on occasion when shooting trick shots, as you will see. I shoot around the rack, over the bridge, under the bridge, even jumping through a tire. In this shot, though, I launch the cue ball over my friend Keith to pocket a ball in the far corner! I love shooting this shot but it was hard to get it over him, he's a big feller. Give a round of applause to Keith Covington for his fearless ability to subject himself to such risks!

NEW JUMP SHOT ADDED - I learned another new shot today (6.23.05) that I call "The Long Jump". Here I jump a row of balls to make a combo where both balls fall, one in the side, another in the corner. The trouble with this shot is the jump obviously. It is difficult to defy the laws of gravity long enough to have the cue ball jump completely over a single ball, let alone a row of six. Even more, here you basically have to land on the first of the two balls you pocket. You'll like this video because I jump with only the shaft of my cue, over the row of balls, and land on the first o the two balls pocketed. Seems simple enough, right?

NEW JUMP SHOT ADDED - I was talking with a guy about jump shots and how in some pool halls they don't allow jump cues, for league play, tournaments, etc. My suggestion is to ditch the jump cue idea if you have to and just use your shaft. It's not a jump cue. Okay, they may still get mad when you school them with only half a stick, but still, it'll be cool if you score even one game with it before you're told not to do it anymore. Anyway, I uploaded a short video of me jumping with just a shaft, what I think is the hardest jumpshot you'd ever face in a game that you might want to attempt. Here, I "Jump A Ball From One Ball's Width Away". I don't make a ball, I'm just proving a point. Artists have to do that from time to time. Enjoy!

Here's a shot that I created where I jump a row of balls over a wall of balls and each LAND IN the pocket. I call this one Jump Drills. In my humble opinion, this is one of my best. Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman really liked this shot when I showed it to him. Here's what he had to say in email corrospondence regarding the origin of this shot: "The waterfall shot was an original of mine from my research and from one of my really creative days on the table. Your variation "on the fly" is original -- I can't wait to try it and give credit where credit is due -- Eric Yow!! Your ears may be ringing a lot in the future, as I mention your name among the players and fans of our sport more now than ever. Enjoy the role, my special friend! May God's favor and blessings be upon you!" To an amateur like me, that's quite possibly the greatest compliment from quite possibly the greatest trick shot artist/showman in the world!

If you've ever seen this shot it was probably by one of artistic pool's greats on ESPN Trick Shot Magic. See me perform the same shot, The Bottle Shot , where I jump the cue off a launch ball and knock the bottom of two stacked balls off of the bottle. The top ball drops and stays in the mouth of the bottle. All the while, the launch ball pockets down table. This is me just trying to be like my heroes.

The Bottle Shot

Bottle Shot

NEW BOTTLE SHOT: I saw a video recently of Fast Larry shooting a version of the bottle shot on "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" where he has four balls stacked on the bottle. He shot a jump shot off of a launch ball to knock the lower three balls off and the top ball, the four ball, falls down and stays on the bottle. Well, the day I saw the video, I was shooting the shot for myself. I hope you enjoy this Four Ball Bottle Shot as seen on tv.

Four Ball Bottle Shot

Four Ball Bottle Shot

NEWER BOTTLE SHOT:Fast Larry challenged me saying to go above and beyond the 4 ball shot. His best was 5 and a few others made a 6 ball bottle shot. I hope now to make the 7 ball bottle shot, eventually. It may not be this summer, but at the rate I'm going, it's a possibility. I made the 4 ball shot the day I saw it had been done before. Now, I have officially made the Five Ball Bottle Shot!!! Stay tuned to see if I take it a step further in the next few weeks...

Five Ball Bottle Shot

Five Ball Bottle Shot

Since I created this neat jump shot I figure I should be able to name it. I can't cut the eight in the bottom right corner, nor the bottom left, and I can't bank it up table.
So, how do I make it? Watch and you'll see why I named this one "Yow! How'd he do that?!"

Yow! How'd he do that?!

Yow! How'd he do that?!
This is another popular jump shot that amazes the audience by the escape of the cue ball. We call this the Jump Escape . Trapped behind the wall and frozen to a pocket point, I jump off the pocket point to travel 3 more rails and make the ball. Very nice!

Jump Escape

This is another idea I got from watching the greats. Studying their technique and playing with my own style I was able to develop the ability to shoot a One Handed Jump Shot. This is a prelude to the next shot that wil really blow you away.

One-Handed Jump

One-Handed Jump
If you liked the one handed jump shot, you'll love it when I Jump One Handed Through A Tire. The sidewall of the tire is pretty tall so I have to jump high enough to get through it. What makes it more interesting is that I have to time it just right. Why, you ask? Becaue the tire is rolling accross the table when I shoot it! I bet you've never seen one like this before...
